Waiting...

Psalm 46 addresses the harsh realities of life.  Wars, pestilence, natural disasters - it is all there.  But at the end of the chapter, we come to this in verse 10:
Be still and know that I am God.
We are helpless against the forces of nature.  We cannot control the continents or the oceans.  We can't stop epidemics.  We don't have the power to control other nations.  We are divided and angry with those who are not like us, or who think differently from us, even in our own nation, and our own families.  Life is an uproar in this fast paced world we live in.  And then we get this simple message.

Be still.  You are not in control.  God has it covered.  Wait on him.  And eventually, his glory will be revealed, and his name exalted.

In this upcoming Advent season, stop rushing about trying to fit things into your mold.  Humans are not good at waiting, especially in the age of cell phones and instant everything, but God is telling us to be patient and thoughtful.  Advent is not meant to be spent frazzled and overwhelmed, but is, instead, a season of thoughtful consideration.

Like a mother quietly nursing a baby during the wee hours of the morning, we should be restful, relaxed, and focused on the moment of joy we are experiencing now.

Wishing you an advent of still reflection.
